중2비김 3-1::Possible or Impossible? In animation movies, amazing things are possible. But are they actually possible in real life? Let Down Your Hair, Rapunzel! In the animation, Rapunzel must lower her long hair to let people in her tower. But could human hair really hold up a person? Surprisingly, yes! A single hair can hold up 100 g and an average head has about 120,000 hairs. All those hairs could hold up a couple of elephants! With her hair, Rapunzel has the ability to hold up a person. But she should wrap her hair around something strong and heavy. If she doesn't, she will get a very sore neck.::가능할까 아니면 불가능할까? 만화 영화에서는 놀라운 일들이 가능하다. 하지만 그런 일들이 실생활에서 정말 가능할까? 라푼젤, 네 머리카락을 내려 주오! 만화 영화에서 라푼젤은 사람들이 탑에 들어오게 하기 위해서 그녀의 긴 머리카락을 내려 주어야 한다. 하지만 인간의 머리카락이 정말로 사람을 들어 올릴 수 있을까? 놀랍게도 그렇다! 머리카락 한 가닥은 100그램의 무게를 들어 올릴 수 있고 보통 머리에는 12만 개 정도의 머리카락이 있다. 이 모든 머리카락은 코끼리 두어 마리를 들어 올릴 수 있다! 라푼젤에게는 머리카락으로 사람을 들어 올릴 수 있는 능력이 있다. 하지만 그녀는 머리카락을 강하고 무거운 것에 감아야 한다. 만약 그렇게 하지 않으면 그녀는 목이 많이 아플 것이다.

중2비김 3-3::Up, Up and Away! The house is lifted and flown by thousands of balloons in the animation. Could that actually work? Let's say that a house weighs about 50,000 kg. A normal balloon at an amusement park can lift about 14 g. So we need about 3,570,000 balloons to lift up the house. We also have to think about the weight of the balloons themselves and the strings. Then, we need to add a few more thousand balloons. Now, the biggest challenge is pumping up all those balloons!::높이, 높이 그리고 멀리! 만화 영화에서 집은 수천 개의 풍선에 의해 들려 올라가고 날아간다. 이게 실제로 가능할까? 집 한 채의 무게가 5만 킬로그램 정도라고 가정해 보자. 놀이공원에 있는 보통의 풍선은 대략 14그램을 들어 올릴 수 있다. 그래서 집을 들어 올리기 위해 우리는 약 3,570,000개의 풍선이 필요하다. 우리는 또한 풍선 자체와 줄의 무게에 대해서도 생각해야 한다. 그렇게 되면, 수천 개의 풍선을 더 더해야 한다. 이제 가장 큰 어려움은 그 모든 풍선에 바람을 넣는 일이다!
중2비김 4-1::Seconds from Winning. At the go-kart race track, there are many people who are cheering excitedly. The karts that are making loud engine noises are waiting. An official waves a green flag and the race starts!::승리 일보 직전. 고카트 경기 트랙에 신이 나서 응원하는 많은 사람들이 있다. 시끄러운 엔진 소음을 내고 있는 카트들이 대기하고 있다. 심판이 녹색 깃발을 흔들고, 경기가 시작된다! 
중2비김 4-2::Max pushes his foot down hard on the gas pedal as he completes his sixth lap on the track. On the straightaway, Max pulls right beside the race's leader, Simon. Last year, Simon won many races, but Max's best result in a race was coming in fifth place. This time, he has a chance to finish second. But he isn't going to be satisfied with second place today. The winner gets to meet the world famous racer Richards! He doesn't want to miss the chance to meet his role model.::Max는 트랙을 여섯 바퀴 돌면서 가속 페달을 힘껏 발로 누른다. 직선 구간에서 Max는 경기의 선두인 Simon의 바로 옆까지 다가간다. 작년에 Simon은 많은 경기에서 우승했지만, 경기에서 Max의 최고 성적은 5등으로 들어온 것이었다. 이번에 그는 2등으로 경기를 마칠 기회가 있다. 그러나 그는 오늘 2등으로 만족하지 않을 것이다. 우승자는 세계적으로 유명한 경주 선수인 Richards를 만나게 된다! 그는 그의 롤 모델을 만날 수 있는 기회를 놓치고 싶지 않다. 
중2비김 4-3::Max completes the tenth lap and now has five more laps to go. Max sees Simon's kart ahead, just out of Max's reach. Max's kart gets closer and closer to Simon's. It almost hits the back end of Simon's kart. They drive into the straightaway and Max presses harder on the gas pedal. "I can catch up," says Max. Max sees the official waving a white flag which means the last lap. Max is right behind Simon. The finish line is getting closer, and the cheering from the crowd is getting louder. "I can do it!" Max says loudly. He can feel his heart beating hard. The karts rush across the finish line. Who is the winner?::Max는 열 바퀴를 마치고 이제 다섯 바퀴가 더 남았다. Max는 바로 닿을 듯한 거리 앞에 있는 Simon의 카트를 본다. Max의 카트는 Simon의 카트에 점점 더 가까이 다가간다. 그것은 Simon의 카트 뒷부분에 부딪힐락 말락 하다. 그들은 직선 구간으로 차를 몰고 들어가고, Max는 가속 페달을 더 세게 밟는다. "나는 따라잡을 수 있어." Max가 말한다. Max는 심판이 마지막 바퀴라는 것을 알려 주는 흰색 깃발을 흔드는 것을 본다. Max는 Simon의 바로 뒤에 있다. 결승선이 점점 더 가까워지고, 관중들의 환호성은 점점 더 커진다. "나는 할 수 있어!" Max는 큰 소리로 외친다. 그는 그의 심장이 빠르게 뛰는 것을 느낄 수 있다. 카트들이 급히 달려 결승선을 지나간다. 누가 우승자일까? 
중2비김 4-4::Max's eyes are filled with tears as he finds out that he came in second. "No need for tears, kid," says a man's voice. Max can't believe his eyes. The man who is standing in front of him is Richards! "Thank you, but I'm not the winner," says Max. "It was a real close race. Even though you didn't win the race, you did your best. That's the thing that counts!" says Richards. 'Did I do my best?' thinks Max. After a moment, he smiles. "Yeah, I guess I did."::Max가 자신이 2등으로 들어왔다는 것을 깨닫자 그의 눈은 눈물로 가득 찬다. "울 필요 없단다, 얘야." 어떤 남자가 말한다. Max는 그의 눈을 믿을 수 없다. 그 앞에서 있는 남자는 Richards이다! "감사합니다만 저는 우승자가 아니에요." Max가 말한다. "정말 아슬아슬한 경기였어. 너는 비록 경기에서 우승하지 못했지만 최선을 다했잖니. 중요한 것은 바로 그거란다!" Richards가 말한다. '내가 최선을 다했었나?' Max는 생각한다. 잠시 후에 그는 미소를 짓는다. "네, 저는 최선을 다했다고 생각해요." Explore Your Feelings! 
중2비김 5-1::Voices in our Mind. Bella is 15 years old this year and these days her feelings are going up and down. Today, she looks down. Let's listen to Bella's feelings and find out why. (Day 1) Anger: What a day! I can't believe Jenny yelled at Bella after the school play. Sadness: Well, that's because Bella forgot her lines on stage. Anger: Jenny pointed out the mistake that Bella made. How could she do that in front of everyone? Joy: But I'm sure Jenny did not mean to hurt Bella. They have been best friends since elementary school. Remember? Anger: That's what I'm saying. A true friend would never put Bella down like that. Fear: I'm worried that they are not going to be friends anymore. Joy: Come on, Fear. Don't go too far. We'll see.::우리 마음의 소리. Bella는 올해로 15살이고 요즘 그 애의 기분은 좋다가 안 좋다가 한다. 오늘 그 애는 기분이 안 좋아 보인다. Bella의 감정에 귀 기울여 보고 그 이유를 알아보자. (첫째 날) Anger: 정말 끔찍한 하루야! 학교 연극이 끝난 후 Jenny가 Bella에게 소리를 지르다니 믿을 수가 없어. Sadness: 글쎄, 그건 Bella가 무대에서 그녀의 대사를 잊어버렸기 때문이잖아. Anger: Jenny는 Bella가 저지른 실수를 지적했잖아. 어떻게 모든 사람 앞에서 그렇게 할 수가 있니? Joy: 하지만 난 Jenny가 Bella에게 상처를 주려고 했던 건 아니었다고 확신해. 그들은 초등학교 때부터 가장 친한 친구였잖아. 기억하지? Anger: 내 말이 바로 그거야. 진정한 친구라면 절대로 그런 식으로 Bella를 깎아내리지 않을 거야. Fear: 나는 그들이 더 이상 친구로 지내지 않을까 봐 걱정돼. Joy: 자, Fear.::너무 극단적으로 생각하지 마. 곧 알게 되겠지. 
중2비김 5-2::(Day 2) Anger: I can't forgive Jenny. She didn't say a word to Bella. Fear: Jenny didn't even look at her. Jenny has never been this cold before. Sadness: Bella ate alone during lunch today. Poor Bella! Joy: Jenny is Bella's best friend. I'm sure there is a reason that we don't know about. Anger: I can't stand this any longer. Bella should just go and tell her about her feelings. Fear: I don't want Bella to be hurt again. She should let it go. Joy: They are good friends. They will work it out.::(둘째 날) Anger: 난 Jenny를 용서할 수 없어. 그 애는 Bella에게 한마디도 말을 안 했어. Fear: Jenny는 심지어 Bella를 쳐다보지도 않았어. Jenny가 전에 이렇게 차가웠던 적이 없었어. Sadness: Bella는 오늘 점심시간에 혼자 밥을 먹었잖아. 가엾은 Bella! Joy: Jenny는 Bella의 가장 친한 친구야. 나는 우리가 모르는 어떤 이유가 있다고 확신해. Anger: 나는 더 이상 이 상황을 못 참아. Bella는 일단 가서 Jenny에게 자신의 감정을 말해야 해. Fear: 나는 Bella가 또다시 상처받는 걸 원하지 않아. 그 애는 그냥 내버려 두어야 해. Joy: 그 애들은 좋은 친구야. 그 애들이 잘 해낼 거야. 
중2비김 5-3::(Day 3) Joy: Whew! I'm so happy that they are talking again. Anger: Yeah, Bella went to Jenny and talked to her first. Joy: Jenny didn't avoid Bella on purpose. Sadness: Yeah, Jenny didn't know a way to say sorry. Fear: I hope Bella doesn't have any more problems like this. Joy: Me, too. But problems are part of growing up. Just like this time, Bella will face the problems, solve them, and become wiser in the end.::(셋째 날) Joy: 휴! 나는 그 애들이 다시 이야기하게 되어 무척 기뻐. Anger: 그래, Bella가 Jenny에게 가서 그 애에게 먼저 말을 걸었지. Joy: Jenny는 일부러 Bella를 피한 게 아니었어. Sadness: 맞아, Jenny는 사과하는 방법을 몰랐던 거야. Fear: 나는 Bella에게 이번과 같은 문제가 더 이상 없기를 바라. Joy: 나도 그래. 하지만 문제는 성장의 일부야. 이번과 마찬가지로 Bella는 문제들에 직면하게 될 거고, 그것들을 해결하고, 결국 더 현명해질 거야. Doors to the Wild 
중2비김 6-1::The Footprints of a Baby Elephant. Today was my first day in Africa. I took lots of pictures of elephants. This morning, I found an elephant group by a small water hole. I saw a baby elephant drinking water beside her mother. Her eyes were as bright as stars. I gave her a name, Stella. Around noon, I saw a group of lions approaching Stella. The elephants stood around Stella and made a thick wall. Thanks to them, Stella was safe.::아기 코끼리의 발자국. 오늘은 내가 아프리카에 온 첫날이었다. 나는 코끼리 사진을 많이 찍었다. 오늘 아침에 나는 작은 물웅덩이 옆에 있는 한 코끼리 무리를 발견했다. 나는 아기 코끼리 한 마리가 엄마 옆에서 물을 마시고 있는 것을 보았다. 그 코끼리의 눈이 별처럼 밝았다. 나는 그 코끼리에게 Stella란 이름을 붙여 주었다. 정오 즈음에 나는 사자 한 무리가 Stella에게 다가가는 것을 보았다. 코끼리들은 Stella 주위에 둘러서서 두꺼운 벽을 만들었다. 그 코끼리들 덕분에 Stella는 안전했다. 
중2비김 6-2::Around sunset, I heard a strange sound. I followed the sound and found Stella crying next to her mom. She was lying dead and Stella was alone. It is dangerous to stay alone in such a wild area. What's more, it was going to be dark soon. Elephants can't see well at night. So Stella could easily be attacked. I called the elephant shelter and asked for help. I decided to stay by her until the rescue team came.::해질녘에 나는 이상한 소리를 들었다. 나는 그 소리를 따라갔고 Stella가 자신의 엄마 옆에서 울고 있는 것을 발견했다. 엄마는 죽어서 누워 있었고, Stella는 혼자였다. 이러한 야생 지역에서 혼자 있는 것은 위험하다. 더욱이 곧 어두워질 것이었다. 코끼리들은 밤에 잘 볼 수 없다. 그래서 Stella는 쉽게 공격을 받을 수 있었다. 나는 코끼리 보호소에 전화를 해서 도움을 요청했다. 나는 구조대가 올 때까지 Stella 곁에 머물기로 결정했다. 
중2비김 6-3::The night was dark and quiet. I kept my eyes on Stella with my night camera. Stella was still next to her mom. She was touching her mom's lifeless body with her nose. It was sad to see Stella staying close to her mom. I hope Stella stays safe throughout the night.::밤은 어둡고 조용했다. 나는 야간용 카메라를 이용해서 Stella를 계속 지켜보았다. Stella는 여전히 엄마 곁에 있었다. Stella는 코로 엄마의 죽은 몸을 어루만지고 있었다. Stella가 엄마 가까이에 머물고 있는 것을 보는 것은 슬픈 일이었다. 나는 Stella가 밤새도록 안전하게 있기를 바란다. 
중2비김 6-4::A new elephant group appeared and Stella approached them. At first, I thought that they would not let Stella in their group. But I was wrong. An elephant, probably the oldest female allowed Stella to become part of the group. The other elephants also seemed to welcome Stella. Unbelievably, one of the female elephants fed Stella. She cared for Stella as warmly as Stella's mom did. This was such an amazing moment!::새로운 코끼리 무리가 나타났고, Stella는 그 무리에 다가갔다. 처음에 나는 그 코끼리들이 Stella를 자신의 무리로 받아들이지 않을 것이라고 생각했다. 그러나 내 생각이 틀렸다. 아마도 가장 나이가 많은 암컷인 듯한 코끼리 한 마리가 Stella가 그 무리의 일원이 되도록 허락했다. 다른 코끼리들도 Stella를 반기는 것처럼 보였다. 믿을 수 없게도, 암컷 코끼리 중의 한 마리가 Stella에게 젖을 먹였다. 그 코끼리는 Stella의 엄마만큼 따뜻하게 Stella를 보살폈다. 이것은 너무나 놀라운 순간이었다.

중2비김 8-1::My Tech-Free Trip Story. Last summer, my father suggested a surprising event: a family trip without smartphones! He said, "I hate to see you sitting together and only looking at your smartphones." My sister and I explained the need for smartphones, but he kept saying that we could not fully enjoy the trip with them. So we started a technology-free trip to a new city, Barcelona, Spain.::나의 '첨단 과학 기술 없는' 여행 이야기. 지난 여름, 아빠가 깜짝 놀랄 만한 이벤트로 스마트폰 없는 가족 여행을 제안하셨다! 아빠는 "나는 우리 가족이 함께 앉아서 각자의 스마트폰만 보고 있는 걸 보는 게 참 싫구나"라고 말씀하셨다. 여동생과 내가 스마트폰이 필요하다고 설명했지만, 아빠는 스마트폰이 있으면 여행을 충분히 즐길 수 없을 거라고 계속해서 말씀하셨다. 그래서 우리는 새로운 도시인 스페인의 바르셀로나로 '첨단 과학 기술 없는' 여행을 시작했다. 
중2비김 8-2::Our first day was terrible. On the way to our guesthouse around Plaza Reial, we got lost in downtown Barcelona. Dad was busy looking at the map and asking for directions with a few Spanish words he got from a tour guidebook. Even though our guesthouse was right next to the Plaza, it took us about two hours to get there. We were so tired that we could not go out for dinner. I went to bed but couldn't fall asleep because I was worried about what would happen the next day.::우리의 첫째 날은 엉망이었다. 레이알 광장 주변에 있는 여행자 숙소로 가는 길에 우리는 바르셀로나 시내에서 길을 잃었다. 아빠는 지도를 보며 여행 안내 책자에서 배운 스페인어 몇 마디로 길을 묻느라 분주하셨다. 우리의 숙소가 광장 바로 옆에 있었음에도 불구하고, 우리가 그곳에 도착하는 데는 거의 두 시간이 걸렸다. 우리는 너무 피곤해서 저녁을 먹으러 나갈 수가 없었다. 나는 잠자리에 들었지만 내일 무슨 일이 일어날지 걱정이 되어서 잠들 수가 없었다. 
중2비김 8-3::After looking around Gaudi's Park Guell, we decided to have seafood fried rice for lunch. However, we didn't know which restaurant to go to. We needed help, so Mom went up to an elderly lady and tried to ask for directions to a popular seafood restaurant. Luckily, she seemed to understand Mom's few Spanish words. She took us to a small local restaurant nearby. The seafood fried rice was amazing. I really wanted to take pictures of the food and post them on my blog. But without my phone, I just decided to enjoy the moment.::가우디가 지은 구엘 공원을 둘러본 후, 우리는 점심으로 해산물 볶음밥을 먹기로 했다. 그러나 우리는 어떤 식당으로 가야 할지 몰랐다. 우리는 도움이 필요했고, 엄마가 한 노부인에게 가서 인기 있는 해산물 식당으로 가는 길을 물어보려 애쓰셨다. 운이 좋게도 그녀는 몇 마디 안 되는 엄마의 스페인어를 이해하는 듯했다. 그녀는 우리를 근처에 있던 작은 현지 식당으로 데려다 주었다. 그 해산물 볶음밥은 놀랍도록 맛있었다. 나는 음식 사진을 찍어 그것을 내 블로그에 올리고 싶은 마음이 정말 간절했다. 그러나 스마트폰이 없었기 때문에 나는 그냥 그 순간을 즐기기로 했다. 
중2비김 8-4::During the remaining days, we relied more and more on the locals. We were able to meet and talk with various people on the streets, in the bakeries, and in the parks. They were always kind enough to show us different sides of Barcelona with a smile. Also, our family talked a lot with each other. We spent much of our time together on the Spanish train, on the bus, and at the restaurants.::(여행의) 남아 있는 날들 동안, 우리는 점점 더 현지 사람들에게 의존하게 되었다. 우리는 거리에서, 빵집에서, 그리고 공원에서 다양한 사람들을 만나 이야기할 수 있었다. 그들은 항상 웃으면서 너무나 친절히도 바르셀로나의 다양한 면을 우리에게 보여 주었다. 또한 우리 가족은 서로 많은 대화를 나누었다. 우리는 스페인식 기차에서, 버스에서, 그리고 식당에서 많은 시간을 함께 보냈다. 
중2비김 8-5::Our technology-free trip was a new and different experience. Before the trip, I was so dependent on my smartphone that I couldn't do anything without it. But now I see that I can enjoy the moment without it. From the experience, I have learned the importance of a balanced use of the smartphone. So, next time, would I travel without a smartphone? Probably not. But I will try to use it more wisely.::우리의 '첨단 과학 기술 없는' 여행은 새롭고 색다른 경험이었다. 여행 전에 나는 내 스마트폰에 너무 의존해서 그것 없이는 아무것도 할 수 없었다. 하지만 지금은 내가 스마트폰 없이도 그 순간을 즐길 수 있음을 알고 있다. 그 경험을 통해, 나는 스마트폰을 균형 있게 사용하는 것이 중요함을 배우게 되었다. 그러면 다음번에 나는 스마트폰 없이 여행을 하게 될까? 아마도 그렇지는 않을 것이다. 하지만 나는 그것을 좀 더 현명하게 사용하기 위해 노력할 것이다.
